satanism is not the worship of satan or the opposite of christianity..
it is a rejection of organized religion and self-deceit or pretending
to be something we're not. this would be a bad person convincing
themselves they are good because they pray, or someone ignoring their
natural sexual urges. Satan is considered the human/animal instinct
within us that most people choose to deny.. Anton Lavey is the founder
of the church of satan and the author of the satanic bible. One of the
main beliefs of the modern satanist is to think for yourself instead of
believing everything you are told. satanism represents vital existance
not spiritual pipe dreams.

all correct.
but for me the core of Satanism is being a god and not worshipping a god.
being the master and not the slave.
that's what makes Satanism different.

While I myself have yet to post my own essay on the subject (and am surprised that I have somehow merited the title of Libertine I, but grateful and eager to demonstrate that I have earned it), I don't think that Satanism necessarily rejects organization as a religion or community, it rather posits that it be rational, undertaken of informed will, and thus also admits of variation based on rational, mutual respect. Certainly self-deceit or the pretending (the sin of pretentiousness) are critical, since it is one's own time and efforts, and one shouldn't be wasteful (ie. work at not being stupid - stupidity is another sin). The LaVeyan opening of Satanism to a broader audience, while of some historical importance, shouldn't blind one and lead to dogmatic adherence and unquestioning mental slavery. One does well to look at historical precedence and roots to see where the ideas and themes come from, how they worked at certain times for certain people, and think about how one should adapt or adopt to accord with one's own nature, because Satanism is most of all about self-discovery and awareness - whence one should indulge, because the proof of the pudding is in the eating. To my mind, Satanism is arguably the most democratic and repubican creed going, as it emphasizes the franchise of each mind to make choices and exercise abilities, and to do so honestly and to work to break the fetters of imposed modes of thhought and behaviour. It is not just about sex - it is about focussed desire, it is about the contract of respect, it is about enlightened self-interest, it is about self-serving, not self-coddling, and so many more things that one post and the time-limits don't permit!

Hail, and be well!
