got to really work on this one CEYTIN, maybe a rite of passage into the bowels with a tribute to people that understood. being an individual collective that we are in there is untold creative freedom for our own funerals. but some sort of rite is needed to procreate ourselves into the voids. any rites out there like this please?. the hardest part is having your dying wishes made real and whom to say it. theres not going to be many people that will in anyones close circle of friends/family no matter how free they think they are. in my case i may have to have it tatted on me. options i love options......

This is a fun post I've neglected. Satanic funeral rites eh? Honestly, not renouncing yourself for salvation before death is as close to a funeral right as any satanist needs.

As for the actual funeral, I want it to be the biggest party I could offer.
As people are filing in, I want Deadsy's song Commencement to play. While thats going on there will be a tv with my urn in front of it, with a slide show of pictures of me playing. Behind it there will be varying lights changing colors.
There will be an open bar during the proceedings. Music will not stop playing, the playlist will be personally picked by me.
Any one wishing to speak should be allowed to come up and say a few words. While there are speakers, instead of a slideshow of me, the tv screen will show fire and baphomet.
When everyones done talking, the tv will host a video of me addressing all who attended, and assuring them that life was indeed fucking awesome, and that mourning should be prohibited and saved till after alls said and done, that only celebrating of my life and accomplishments should be talked about.
When thats all over, an open buffet will be served while my final wish is carried out. My ashes will be put into a cannon and fired out(still haven't decided where) Hunter Thompson style while "You Can't Bring me Down" by Suicidal Tendencies is played.

Yeah.. something like that :D

bro, sounds great. dreams are for free and they are also for sleep. thats the big easy, if you want it your way im not in any position to tell you likewise. but within the thought of the after life are you going to make it in, without a rite of passage........

One thing I'd like to throw in here (and which may have been said, I just skimmed the previous 3 pages..):

A friend and I were having a discussion a couple weeks back about death/funerals and he mentioned how he "really wanted a bagpipe rendition of Amazing Grace" played at his funeral, but that he wouldn't have it done.

I asked him why, thinking it was his memorial, and he was entitled to celebrate it however he saw appropriate.

Real quick here, I should point out that my friend is pretty Jewish (literally.. Yarlmulka, Tefflin Torah, etc... Jewish) and assumed that he wouldn't have it played because it was expected he'd have a fairly traditional Jewish funeral.

But he said something which I as aware of but had never really THOUGHT about:

"The funeral is not FOR the dead. It may be about the dead, even in honor of the dead. But the corpse is dead. It doesn't care. It doesn't know. The funeral is really for the living."

As much as we might want some dramatic sending off ceremony (a la Hunter S Thompson) or a green funeral, or whatever, perhaps, in this particular instance, we shouldn't think about what we want, but rather what would our loved ones want.

I think it is for this reason, that its very important that we discuss funeral arrangements with our loved ones well in advance. Not so that our "final wishes" are carried out necessarily, but so that we can try to ensure that our loved ones are provided for emotionally when they will be weakest.

If your spouse or family or whomever you feel falls into the loved ones category feel that they really want a statue of you carved for a headstone or bury you in a mausoleum or whatever, maybe we should let them and merely provide the means to do so (ie put money aside). I'm not Christian, by far, but if my family would deal with my loss best that way, I think they should be allowed to do so.

After all, I'm gonna be dead. Not like I'd know.

Just a thought.

I can only speak for myself when I say I am too committed to the concept of base/undefiled wisdom to commit intellectual suicide in the manner you suggest. The idea of afterlife is nonsensical, and the reasons are manifold.
